歐洲議會選舉16號候選人-華人青年張敬龍獲得菲律賓社團支持,表示在競選最後一周,會繼續努力,擴闊票源,為華人爭取歐洲議會零的突破。

菲律賓青年組織「菲律賓新一代」的信託人卡羅斯表示:張敬龍參選是英國亞裔歷史上一個里程碑,他們為張敬龍感到自豪。他說:「不少菲律賓移民都面對華人相近的問題,需要有人代表我們爭取權益。張敬龍不但有年青人的衝勁,更有多年參政及在公共事務上實質工作的經驗。他代表亞裔人士參選,對我們有極大的啟發。我們將會全力支持他,希望他成功當選。」

英國華人參政計劃成員,本台DJ張敬龍,五月七日正式宣佈參加歐洲議會選舉,掀起了英國華人關心政治的熱潮。張敬龍是2009年度戴安娜皇妃大獎之得獎者之一,現年十九歲,如果成功當選,將成為歐洲議會最年青的議員,亦為首位參加該選舉之英國華人。

  英國多個華人社團今日發起【一人一鎊支持張敬龍參選大行動】,為十九歲的華人青年張敬龍籌募經費,參加本屆歐洲議會選舉。張敬龍對各地華人的支持表示感謝,有信心能夠在四月底之前達到第一階段籌款目標,取得五千英鎊繳付選舉按金。歐洲議會之入場費高昂,選舉按金,比參加地區選舉高出十倍。

張敬龍是2009年度戴安娜皇妃大獎之得獎者之一,現年十九歲,若參加選舉,預計將為歐洲議會選舉最年青的參選人,亦為首位參加該選舉之英國華人。

英國華人參政計劃成員張敬龍在本週二(四月七日)宣佈有意參加競選,數日之間已籌得一千六百一十英鎊。在倫敦華埠宣佈【一人一鎊行動】之後,不少華人均即時捐款表示支持。他說:「部份商戶將會放置捐獻箱,又表示將會進行義賣,也有朋友計劃舉辦音樂會募捐,令人看到華人團結的力量。儘管一鎊的價值不高,但倫敦有二十萬華人,只要一人一鎊,我們便可以有足夠的經費,正式競選。更重要的是,捐贈來自普羅大眾,我的競選就有了他們的實質參與,我的政綱自然會更迎合他們的需要,我為華人爭取權益時,也便更有代表性了。」

Princess Diana Award winner Steven Cheung confirmed his intention to seek nomination to stand in the forthcoming European Election. At just 19, he could become the youngest ever Member of the European Parliament if elected.

A member of nthe BC, British Chinese project, Cheung was born in Hong Kong and grew up in London. His father is Chinese and his mother from Philippines. He remembered his arrival in the UK when he was 11, “It is often difficult for immigrants like us to settle in a new country, trying to maintain our cultural identity, while at the same time under pressure to integrate into the society at large.”
